IT Systems Supervisor

The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) is an intergovernmental organisation working for the promotion of free trade and economic integration to the benefit of its four Member States Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

The EFTA Secretariat provides services to the EFTA States and has offices in Geneva, Brussels and Luxemburg. The Headquarters in Geneva services the EFTA Council and supplies services for policy development, negotiations and implementation of free trade and cooperation agreements with countries outside the European Union. The Brussels office supports the management of the EEA Agreement and assists the Member States in the elaboration of input to EU decision making. EFTA’s Luxembourg office contributes to the development of the European Statistical system.

This position is open to nationals of all the EFTA (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) and EU Member States.

Duration of Appointment
Fixed term of three years. If considered desirable and in the organisation’s interest, an additional three-year contract may be offered.

Role Description

The IT team comprises of four IT Systems Supervisor that report to the Head of IT. Together they work towards a high-quality IT environment in an ambitious international organisation. The IT team is a part of the Administrative Division, providing the EFTA Secretariat and the Financial Mechanism Office (FMO) with excellent internal services. The IT team is responsible for providing information services to about 170 end-users in Brussels, Geneva and Luxembourg.

We are looking for a skilled IT professional for a Systems Supervisor role. The successful candidate will have a wide range of challenging technical responsibilities, such as:

  • Daily operations and help desk
  • System and network infrastructure management
  • Server, application and user management
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation
  • Contribute to the planning and development of IT infrastructure and strategy
  • Manage projects with external technical consultants

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent training and experience;
  • Excellent general knowledge of IT infrastructure;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Azure and hands-on experience on building and operating Azure-based hybrid Infrastructure
  • Experience designing, implementing and administering ICT networks and/or firewall solutions or
  • Structured, pragmatic and analytical organisational skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Pro-active attitude and the ability to work both independently and in a multi-disciplinary team in an international environment;
  • Sense of responsibility, discretion, trust and respect;
  • Ability to work under pressure and multitask;
  • Flexible and service minded;
  • Excellent oral and written command of English, the working language of EFTA.

Ideal Skills

  • Experience designing, implementing and administering VMWare or Hyper-V infrastructure;
  • Experience designing and implementing or providing training in MS SharePoint solutions;
  • Experience managing SQL databases and reports;
  • Working knowledge of other EFTA languages

Employment Terms

Grade: B6
Annual starting salary: EUR 63.847

Appointments are normally made at the first step of the grade. The Secretary-General reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a level different from that advertised. Through its recruitment policy, the EFTA Secretariat wants to ensure diversity in terms of gender, age and culture.

EFTA is an international organisation and the salaries and related payments are normally exempt from income taxation by the EFTA Member States and in the host states of the EFTA duty stations. Depending on the candidate’s family status, benefits and allowances may apply.
