Officer to the Parliamentary Committees - EEA Coordination Division

The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) is the intergovernmental organisation of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, set up for the promotion of free trade and economic integration among its members, within Europe and globally. The EFTA Secretariat provides services to the EFTA States and has offices in Geneva, Brussels and Luxembourg. The Brussels Secretariat provides support in managing the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA).

This position is open to nationals of the EFTA Member States (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland).

The EFTA Parliamentary Committee is an advisory body covering EFTA trade policy and the EEA Agreement. The successful applicant will provide services to the Committee, the EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee, the joint parliamentary body with the European Parliament established under the EEA Agreement.

The work entails organising regular meetings and conferences and providing information and support to the committee members, including researching, analysing and preparing agendas, speaking notes and resolutions, as well as policy documents on issues of interest to the committees in co-operation with experts in the Secretariat.

The role involves liaison between the above committees and the statutory bodies of EFTA and the EEA, as well as national parliaments of the EFTA States, the European Parliament and EFTA embassies.

The successful applicant is expected to travel on a regular basis and must be willing to take on other tasks as needed.


Higher university degree in either political science or social sciences.


• Work experience, preferably in a national administration, parliament, or international organisation;
• Ability to draft analytical reports, policy papers, and speaking notes concisely and clearly in English;
• Solid knowledge of EFTA and international trade policy, the EEA Agreement, and the EU;
• Experience with standard office software (preferably Microsoft Office).


• Excellent organisational ability and communication skills;
• Diplomatic and social skills;
• Self-reliance and autonomy, as well as facility for teamwork in a task-oriented environment.


Excellent oral and written command of English.

Employment Terms

Grade: A4
Annual starting salary: EUR 92,050

Appointments are normally made at the first step of the grade. The Secretary-General reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a level different from that advertised.

Salaries and related payments are exempt from taxation by the EFTA States, and as regulated in headquarters agreements, in the EFTA host states. Depending on the candidate’s family status, benefits and allowances may apply.
